As we are now going to complete the repairs, on this car, the 4 leaking strut/shocks need replaced. Looking around here seems to be very few options for this car which does not have the 4C suspension (thankfully).
All I can find is Sachs front and rears at Rock Auto and some no-name brand. Bilstein do not make shocks for this car. Can't afford high end shocks, but are there any other options that anyone can suggest or recommend?
Thanks,
Neil.

No one fitted replacement shocks to an Xc70 non-4C? I still cannot find any options other than SACHS. I'm guessing I'll have to go with that.
Any suggestions on Spring Seats?

I found the same thing, not much variety for the XC. I think I went for the Ipd OE Sachs struts.

After driving some hundreds of miles I can conclude that while the car is more planted with white sticker SACHS, the ride quality is slightly harsher than the failed shocks. It *may* improve as the new ones wear, but who knows. Beforehand with the old SACHS(they were orange sticker and likely original so ~20 years old) on a flat road, pavement with no pot holes, the car felt as if it was gliding on air, despite the fact that they were failed shocks. With the new ones, I can feel more harshness, no more air gliding I think.

I went with Sachs 554041 from FCP for front struts.
Used Sachs spring seats In rebuilding the strut towers, haven't failed yet, we are at 3 years since the install. Febi strut mounts and bump stops.
Rear shocks Sachs 311753 from FCP installed at the same time.
After refreshing both front and rear the ride was greatly improved but not silky smooth, sounds similar to dikidera's post.

Car came to us with recently installed, new quick-struts, currently those are at 1.5 years, hoping they last a bit more.
Rears still on factory shocks, currently at 194k.

Thanks guys for the help and suggestions. Our 06 has 4-C suspension and I have to say I find it harsh and clunky even after new units were filled. Otherwise the car is ok. Interesting observation on the SACHS being harsh. I think part of this they are generic valved units and not specific necessarily for the XC70 only. I found the same thing with swapping the front shocks on an 850 where the tired originals had more compliance but were firmer, the new generics were soft by comparison. Volvo ones would be great, but the rears are NLA I believe.
