V50 new power steering pump - dealer stuck?

Post by Furball »

Hi all. Having trouble replacing a power steering pump on our 2011 V50 1.6 D2. Hoping this sounds familiar to someone as my is dealer currently struggling to resolve

Original pump was part number 31202089 but my local Volvo parts said (based on my VIN) this pump now superseded by 36050680 which was 'plug and play' with no software problems.

New pump fitted (£500 FoMoCo unit), all levels and connections good. Appeared to bleed fine with engine running.

Car moved off stands and immediately threw up 'Power Steering Service Required' with obvious lack of power steering. Checked fluid level (again), plugs and fuses, all good. Spoke to dealer again who said some confusion (now) on their system as pump repair procedure did show a software update..... :o

Car now at dealer and has had VIDA check and software downloads but pump still won't talk to power steering controller (PCS) apparently :x

Has anyone else met this problem? Pump 36050680 was sold as the compatible replacement for my D2 by the Volvo dealer but their techs can't make it work. They seemed to be out of ideas today and I'm desperate to get the car back so any ideas most welcome please!
