'00 V70R Brake Master Cylinder Leak?

I've been trying to figure out a stiff brake pedal on my V70R with an occasional "popping" sensation, and I figured I'd scope inside the booster to see if the master cylinder was leaking. I checked for any vacuum leaks first, everything is in tact. However, there is rust on the booster from an old fluid leak (or possibly fluid that overfilled) so I wanted to see if there is evidence of fluid inside the booster.
The inside of the booster is dry, however I can see what looks like brake fluid pooling on the master cylinder itself. I'm not certain though, it could possibly be some sort of grease. Any ideas?

Maybe get a swab in there and see how it smells? It doesn’t look like brake fluid

I am not sure what would cause the stiff brake pedal? It could be a bad master cylinder. When mine went bad, I could smell the fluid inside the car. The seal between the master cylinder and the booster do leak with age. New mater cylinder fixed the issue.

I wish I could get in there to swap it, but I can't get that angle. I'd have to pull out the master cylinder. I'm thinking it's unlikely to be anything else unless they grease them from the factory, and that it's just melted with time. It looks like really dirty brake fluid though.
I'm looking around and it looks like I can only find cheap Chinese brands for these... damn...

Noted... thanks! Just let me know when you get a minute and can see if they put some schmoo in there or that's brake fluid as I suspect.
