Transmission Torque Mount bolt hole broken off

Post by fitz548 »

Hello all,

I hope everyone is doing well,

I have an interesting issue i noticed today when i was underneath the wagon at first i was fixing the right front fog lamp it has not worked in a good while i have Led Headlights and Led fog lamps the right side wiring got green corrosion on the plug and several other areas of the wiring so i removed all that mess and just installed a regular old yellow fog lamp on that side its cheesy i know but its fixed for the time being.

The other Main issue is when underneath the car i though hey i have another transmission Torque mount let me go ahead and change that it has not been done in along time.

when i hooked up my socket and ratchet i noticed the bolts were loose like finger tight i thought what in the Hell????
then i noticed on the back of the mount that bolts into the transmission the bolt was missing and a big chunk of aluminum was gone also like someone over tightened the bolt and broke off the bolt hole and bolt.

i dont know when this happened i had my transmission rebuilt some years back at a place in Torrance california called Atlas transmissions this guy is a volvo specialist and he did an amazing job rebuilding my transmission.

he did all this work including installing a new valve body and solenoids also for the price of 1400.00 i know this is unheard of because i have checked around a few places in Texas and other areas and people tell me yea uhhh 3500.00 or more.

back to the Torque mount i got the back bolt out barely it was on there really tightly i removed the old mount and it was a little worn out i installed the new mount and tightened the bolts onto the subframe. then i tightened the back bolt everything seems ok should i worry about that one bolt thats missing along with the chunk of aluminum thats also missing? here are a few pictures for yall

While less than ideal, can you use a longer bolt? How far do the threads go into the broken hole?

i would imagine the threads go over halfway down into the hole probably the threads stop about half an inch from the very bottom of the area in length

The bolt is the same as the one beside it.

You guys down South suck. Ive never seen the clamp for the power steering lines with a torx screw that wasnt a hunk of rust. I dont even get the Torx set out, I just reach for the grinder

Load that hole up with grease, put a bolt in it, and drive it another 200k miles

I looked up the part number on the bolt and turns out its an M10 and so i ordered some M10 grade 8.8 zinc plated bolts from amazon they will be here in a few days-

yea as far as the clamp on the power steering lines i never really paid must attention to the bottom of the car most of the time when i was living on the west coast i had a shop perform all of the repairs its only now some years later that i have a house and a good size garage and i am fixing everything myself.

This car was originally from PNW so i was not sure what was done to it over the years.

Ok this is fixed now i actually used a Depstech Borescope to look inside the bolt hole and the threads were clean. i think maybe the bolt fell out cause it might have come loose at one point.

I used a bolt that was about 1/4 inch longer and i was able to secure that bracket i tried using a longer bolt but it bottomed out in the housing so this other size was good enough now on to the next task.

Thanks for all your help everyone.
