2017 S60 2.0 drive-e knocking?

Post by Mischiefmerle »

Hey so I recently purchased a 2017 S60 T5 dynamic 2.0t with 143k miles for cheap because it had a misfire. Did my diagnosis and found the cylinder 3 exhaust valve to be burnt, replaced the valve and had the machine shop put in new valve guides. I did new timing belt, gaskets and everything using the Volvo tools for timing and following instructions from all data, cleared codes and start it and no more misfire! But it is now making a slight knocking noise

When I disconnect the injector on cylinder 3 the noise goes away when that cylinder is dead hence why I didn't hear the noise when I bought the car when it was misfiring.

The oil trap was also completely clogged and it was bogging down and blowing smoke out the tailpipes and was almost impossible to fill with oil, replaced the oil trap, no more smoke, runs smooth and power is normal but still a slight knock.

I bought a set of rod bearings for cylinder 3, dropped the oil pan and removed the balance shaft and replaced the rod bearings for cylinder 3, torqued everything and put it back together using the dial indicator for the balance shaft and topped it off and STILL it has a slight knock to it that only goes away when I kill cylinder 3, when I felt the rod before I removed it, it had a little bit of play and when I put the new bearings in it didn't so I thought that was going to fix it. The bearings that came out were in pretty good condition if I'm honest, they didn't seem to have any excessive wear or anything.

It's not terrible but I was planning on selling this car once it was fixed to make a little cash on it but I don't want to sell someone a car that's gonna blow up down the line.

I have only driven it around the neighborhood 3 or 4 times, maybe it needs more miles to break in or something idk but I wanted to see if anyone has had issues like this with the drive-e and maybe get some direction, I'm thinking I might need to put an engine in it but I'd like to try and fix the one in it considering I've sung almost $1500 into getting it to where it is right now on top of what I paid for the car and the noise isn't THAT bad
