Release for fuel fill door

So is there a back-up one for the '99 V70 ? There is no battery in the $100 project car, and I took out the rear side panel looking for the wire hoop, but nothing was there. All sealed up from the inside.

Nope is the simple answer. There was not one fitted to the S/V70 to my knowledge. I did fit one to a 98 from a 850 with a small amount of mods due to an intermittent issue. Naturally the problem fixed itself!

I don't think there is a way to get into it to release it easily but you can get to it with a bit of stretching. You might be able to pull the actuator to release it. Otherwise you will have to break the clip. Can't you hook up jumper cables to it or a jump pack?

I think the clip is $2

It does offend my sensibilities , but the last time I had a stuck one, I broke the clip.

Well so much is missing from under the hood that I'm a bit concerned hooking up a battery, but I'll give it a try.
I like the idea of retro fitting some sort of mechanical release, so I'll look into that. Just in case...

Doesn't it have an emergency handle in the trunk like 850 wagon have?
It's well hidden...right floor and a little piece of side panel needs to be removed to access it.

There is no back-up release. I removed the rear side panels and nothing.
But I took jumper cables and fired up the electrical system. Everything, including the filler door worked.

Not on a V/S70. I transferred one from an 850 for the lady owner of a 98 V70 as the lock was not always working when really cold. Usually when her car was running on fumes!

When I had my S70, the trunk side panel was pulled out, at the top, and I simply would reach in, and pull the electric actuator by hand... EVERY fill up.
