What changes were incorporated w/ introduction of V70 facelift?

Post by jrschwit »

Is there a post or reference which more or less completely documents the changes incorporated with the facelift o/a MY '05? My searches have not yielded any such compilation though I gather headlights changed from glass to plastic, taillight covers are different and the seat mounts are different, among other things.
My interest is because I bought an 04 V70 na knowing it needs some minor engine work. Come to find out it's most certainly MY 05 post-facelift (it does have plastic on the headlights, taillights covers are different and the seat mounts are distinctly different). It has a build date of 10/04 in Belgium, the serial number decodes to MY 05 and the owners manual shows 2005 but for some reason it is titled as 2004. I may soon reach a decision point whether to attempt repairs or make it a parts car for several 01-04 V70s that I am fixing up for the extended family. Having a better idea of what is or is not directly transferrable in the way of parts will help inform that decision.
Also. did the implementation of the all facelift changes occur at one time or were they made as supplies were exhausted? Similarly, did the implementation occur at the 04-05 MY break or at some other point?

It is titled 2004 as it may have been registered in 2004 although 2005 MY cars were starting to be sold as of August 1st 2004.

So plastic headlights covers, and diamond rear lights. When you look at the rear lights the silver part looks like diamond plate. -2004 had vertical lines in the plastic covers. You can swap them from one to the other. The MY 05 also have a little red LED strip marker on the outer side of the rear light lower covers.

Also, 05' model year has all trim painted in the color of the car, of course this doesn't apply to XC. Center console design was changed and the stereo systems re- designed. 04' was the last year with a cassette player. Interior trim went from gray to black/ charcoal. Rain sensing wiper design updated, in 05' it became an independent function.

Big electronics change in 2005 MY

The CANBUS was divided into two separate circuits , one low speed and one high speed.

Thanks for the info. From what you just shared and what I've gathered from other various posts, it appears the major changes were minor body and trim updates with a few electrical changes. I'm more interested in any significant powertrain and chassis changes which may not be immediately apparent and which would prevent swapping parts to earlier P2s. At this point, I don't have anything specific in mind but engine, transmission, suspension are potential candidates. Possibly also things like fuel pump and radiator, etc.

I'd also like to say what a valuable resource this site is. The willingness of so many to freely share their knowledge and experience is a very fine thing. Thanks to all.

All P2s have two separate CAN buses.

2005 had an improved power steering fluid reservoir. Newer haldex awd if I recall correctly? What else ... PEM was added. CEM installation location was improved I believe due to water ingress. Spitballing here.. apologies .

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.

Exactly, they always had a low and hi speed bus, the difference was their bitrate.
