97 850 N/A sputters when accelerating

hello, i have a problem with my 850 where the majority of the time i accelerate the RPM's sputter and it accelerates very roughly. i'm pretty sure it's down to either a fuel, spark or exhaust issue but i want to know if anyone who has experienced this can point me in the right direction.

what i do know:
NY car, the undercarriage is rusty, and the exhaust headers and exhaust pipe have holes and/or are separated, i've been driving around with just headers because this is my daily and i don't have the money to take it to an exhaust shop.

some people experience issues where moisture getting into the distributor cap, and it has been very rainy these past few days. however this problem only sprung up after the exhaust leak worsened.

I'd pull the distributor cap, pull the mounting ring behind it, and get buy eyes on that cam seal under the cap.

See if you can get the running pressure check on the fuel system. Static it should be 43 psi or in that region. Do the check Erik suggest first though as moisture in the distributor cap, work contact on the cap or rotor can also cause issues as damp can prevent spark.

do you have a CEL? could be that the oxygen sensor measures wrong values due to the exhaust leak, that could screw up things.
