There's no inspection here, I could convert the car to burn coal if I wanted to. I just figured it would be easier to fix the system, rather than to try to work around it. I may need to address the valve, Though. I guess the issue start with them leaking?

Yeah, we just did the SAS delete with the diode in the ECU on her '97 GLT.

It's more of a hassle to remove all of the un-needed/dead parts than anything.

A leaking valve is usually what causes the pump to fail as you mention.

Can they be cleaned to restore function?

Nope. They fail internally. For the effort to swap and the cost of the pump, it is false economy to try to fix it. If you want to try, remove it and maybe try something like sensor cleaner sprayed into it to see if it cleans any gunk out. Once it dries out, try blowing through it both ways. If you can then it is bad. I would suggest as I said earlier, it is in my opinion a stopgap at best and as likely to cause an failure again.

Thank you. That's what I was afraid of. I've got a new valve in my FCP cart.

One of the issues with the SAS pump is there is no weep hole in the casing to allow condensation to leak out. After having one do what you are going through now, when I got my used replacement, I carefully drilled a 1/8" hole at the lowest point in the case to allow it to drain should the valve fail again. This did not set off any DTC's on my car doing that.

I should add, we do not have emissions testing here so I don't know it it would compromise the efficiency of the SAS system enough to fail an inspection.

I'm still waiting for the valve from FCP. I got the gasket yesterday... they shipped a tiny gasket in a box that's approximately the size of a shoe box! I got free shipping, but am still horrified by the waste.
