Volvo S60 D5 (2004) – Blue Smoke and Rough Idle After Startup

Post by mateqh »

Hello!

I recently replaced the vacuum pump seals due to fluctuating vacuum pressure. The pressure has stabilized, but since then, I feel like I have a much bigger issue.

A few seconds after starting the car (sometimes 1-2 minutes), it starts to jerk, as if there’s a misfire, and blue smoke comes out of the exhaust. So far, it seems that after driving for 10-15 seconds, it stops. What’s also interesting to me: sometimes it doesn’t do it at all, and it doesn’t have any issues for 1-2 days.

I recently did the glove test (placed a rubber glove over the oil filler cap), and unfortunately, it inflated within 1-2 seconds. Oh, and that characteristic gurgling sound is also audible from the opening.

Car details: 2004, S60 2.4 D5 (D5244T, euro 3), 120kw/163hp

Does anyone have any ideas? Has anyone experienced a similar problem?

if it was a petrol engine I'd say the pcv system is clogged.
But if its a deisel, we don't see them in North America.
