Problem and ?? 2005 XC90 2.5

Post by TadpoleMcCoy »

So I bought a 05 XC90 AWD with 162k, excellent condition inside and out other than the lady I bought it from said it shut off on her on way home from an extended road trip and wouldn't start back. She thought UT was a starter issue due to the slow dragging of the motor when turning over. I pulled the coils and plugs and turned it and still slow drag like weak or dying battery. So anyway, I paid $400 for it and brought it home. Changed starter, still same dragging and no start.

Timing belt was done 10k miles ago according to reciepts and the documented journal and list of repairs left in glovebox. Checked wiring as far as I could in 20° weather feeling like my knuckles are gonna break. No noticeable damaged or cracked wires. Good reading on battery and starter. Any ideas? My wife really need this to run so she can have her own seat to move and own radio to adjust. Thanks in advance. By the way, I have an exact replica other than color and fwd. The running one I've had for a while and it's a very dependable ride except recently it's like the rear end wobbles and sways.

"Slow drag" - sound? Feel? RPM while cranking?

Pump electronics module (PEM) or fuel pump is my guess if one omits crankshaft physical drag, starter (replaced) and battery (checked, NOT original right?) from the equation. Maybe add fuel pressure sensor (FPS) tom the equation but I thought a failure would at least allow the motor to run.

PEM should be straight forward to spot on an '05, it's right next to the fuel filter that hopefully is not 20 years old (original has a masking tape wrap over the line/filter connectors). My first XC90 was a MY05, I did a write-up on PEM location a few years back. As I didn't see anything this forum: https://www.swedespeed.com/threads/xc90 ... on.588547/
