Hello all,
I am finally getting around to tuning my M4.4 ECU to get rid of the CEL caused by the M66 swap. Need to take the car in for emissions testing and I don't want to give the state inspectors any reason to give me a hard time.
I bought a VAG KKL cable off of amazon a year or two ago, and was able to get it to work with Vol-FCR, although it had many connection issues (generally was only able to stay connected to the car for ~10 seconds, enough to check and clear codes but not ideal).
After having issues with TunerPro not recognizing the cable, I've come to the conclusion (via windows device manager) that it has a CH340 chipset rather than the FTDI chip that's seemingly required to properly communicate with the ECU to flash/log data. The amazon page for the cable I bought no longer exists, but I'm pretty sure it claimed to have had an FTDI chip, so I believe I may have been scammed.
That being said, does anyone know of a vendor or have a link to where I can buy a cable that is confirmed to have an FTDI chip? I don't want to waste money on another counterfeit one.
Thanks in advance!

You could get FTDI part number US232R-100-BULK, cable assembly made by FTDI, directly from FTDI, or from a franchised distributor like Mouser or Digi-Key. Then, for the VAG KKL portion, you would add a VAG KKL cable with DB9 connector - no USB-serial bridge chip inside.
Buying an "FTDI inside" cable from anyone other than FTDI is a crapshoot. Most of them are counterfeit.
