2000 V70R for sale, (SOLD), Southeast Michigan Topic is solved

2000 V70R for same in Southeast Michigan (48145).

The good:

-the car runs and drives, has 280k miles on it.
-ECU has a tune from ARD
-tires have lots of tread, and are about 2.5 years old (Michelin)
-newer battery
-new timing belt and plastic covers
-rebuilt angle gear
-new steering rack

The bad:

-the main issue it has is a bearing/gear noise somewhere in the front. It has been hard to pinpoint, and I have rebuilt the angle gear but that hasn't changed it. I'm thinking it's the transmission, but don't really have any evidence to back that up (trans shifts fine). It starts as a gear rubbing sound at low speeds and progresses to more of a whine at highway speeds.
-exterior and interior are in alright condition, but do have notable wear. One fog light is broken
-it burns a little oil but still makes it between oil changes without going low
-AC works but doesn't get real cold and smells like dirty socks. I replaced the evaporator, condenser and compressor with rock auto parts due to an evaporator leak but it's never really been great since. The temperature drop is 18 degrees, and the drain line is clear, but it just doesn't work well.
-check engine light is on for a evaporative emissions leak

Overall it is fun to drive, and I love the car. But I have too many projects and I need to get rid of some. It has an aftermarket radio but I have the original. I have a complete set of doors and back hatch for it from a car I had that got wrecked (same model, year and color- it was parted out years ago). I also have a spare transmission from that car too. All go with it for the one price. (Or you can leave them if you want).

I just want to see it go to a good home rather than the scrap yard. Asking $1000. Make me an offer.

Thanks for the very honest listing. The front whine I thought "aha! wheel bearing", but if it doesn't change pitch when turning it's likely not that.

I also tried those clip on microphones to listen to where the noise is coming from, but all I could make out was the entire front was noisy, and the noise wasn't coming from the back.

I did proactively change the front wheel bearings with OEM a few years back, they might have 30k miles on them. I don't think they are the cause of the noise, but anything is possible.

Have you changed the carrier bearing on the RHF axle?

Neil - yes I did change that bearing when I had the angle gear out. It was in poor condition and I thought it would help, but there was no change in the noise unfortunately.

I’m thinking about it for my Niagara Falls NY donor program. Giving a poor kid an R for a first car might not be too karmic , though.

Could it road trip 5 hours do you think?
