1998 V70 immobiliser codes and non running **FIXED**

Post by Max234 »

Hi,

**new edit** I went to a Volvo breaker and found a new ECU and immobiliser module from a matching (lakes autos in the UK definitely worth a visit), and after swapping just the ECU the problem went away after 3 attempted starts, then left running as it was running a little high, so it could naturalise. Also of note the car was running slightly rich before and is no longer

This was after being told ECU's and immobiliser modules are coded together from the factory (apparently not).

The ECU is a: SIEMENS S103955411C (from donor)
The immobiliser module is a VOLVO 9459800 VIM 016 IMMO 3 BOSCH (original to the car with same keys)

Also of note this specific model of ECU is not tuneable or able to be coded to run without the immobiliser

Hope this helps

**Original post**:

I brought my car roughly 6 months ago and since then it's been getting less and less reliable on running (only starts for 1-2 seconds before cutting out), until now where it refuses to start at all. So after having the codes read (I'm unsure on the exact meaning on a couple of them, see attached photo), the antenna ring replaced, fuses replaced and all connections between the key and ECU checked/cleaned I am no closer to finding a solution.

List of things tried and failed:

-used the spare key, no change

- took the ECU out and cleaned both sides of connection, after that it started as it should for about 15 times before the issue came back

-took the immobiliser unit under the steering column out and cleaned, started twice after that but then refused to after.

- antenna ring replaced and connection cleaned, no change

-all relaxant fuses checked and replaced, no change

-New battery, no change

-leaving disconnected from battery for 48 hours, no change

After calling every local garage and auto electrician no one is willing/able to work on it so I am running out of options. If anyone can help I'd be eternally grateful, thanks

That diagnostic tool is confusing.
You have two types of immobilisers according to it...immo2 & immo3.
You can have only one of them and that would be immo3 for '98 70 series.

Late 850 ('96 & '97) have immo2.
'97 850 2.5 20v / fully equipped / Motronic 4.4 from the factory / upgraded with S,V,C,XC70 instrument cluster / polar white wagon
