2006 S60 2.5 T (Also 1996 850 GLT)

Hi Everyone,

I went on a 30 day trip and left my S60 parked at a friend's place. 2 things happened... firstly, as I live in Canada, a couple large chunks of ice slid off the roof and dented both doors and quarter panels on the passenger side. Big bummer... But only I can fix that.
What's also happening is that I've noticed that almost immediately after starting. the car the cooling fan goes into hyper speed mode as though the AC is on and its 90 degrees outside... I assure you, it is not. I am pulling a PO 111 code. I followed another thread on this site that suggested I replenish the coolant in my AC system (even though I seemed to be getting plenty of cool air ... so I went ahead and topped up the system with coolant... following directions. The gauge on the coolant can was dipping into the green. It has made no difference.
So then as I followed things further the suggestion was to replace my ITA sensor but as my chassis number is above 234500 my ITA is part of the Boost Pressure sensor. But I have no symptoms related to a Boost pressure sensor failure.
So... any suggestions. Is a PO 111 ever indicative of needing a new thermostat / housing? Any suggestions or things I can do to eliminate possibilities would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks for the offer yanga001... I have access to a good scanner and like I said, I pull the PO 111 which indicates a sensor break down. I will get my mechanic to double check coolant levels and go from there. Thanks again.

The fan is designed to stay on when the integrated relay fails.
Vida lets you test the fan speeds.
If it doesn't respond its the onboard relay. Some are serviceable, some are not.

Hello jonesg,

Thanks for the reply... I didn't get a notification so apologize for the late response. Can you replace the integrated relay?
I will get a Vida scan today. And what you're saying is... I should be able to control fan speeds with Vida... and if not, I probably need
an onboard relay? Are they something you can easily pull in a yard? Do you have a part #? Location? After all that I have done and it not being fixed, I was heading towards the thermostat and yet my running and idling temperature is right in the middle of the gauge...
besides it being a PITA job... particularly on an '06. I'd like to avoid that. Still getting PO 111 and a PO 126.
Thanks for your input.

Hello again....While away on my trip, a large amount of ice fell from a rooftop beside where I was parked and smashed into the passenger side... needless to say I have extensive damage on that side that my insurance will not pay for because of the age (value) of my car. I understand that there are ambient air temperature sensors in the mirrors. Is it possible that because the mirror has had one heck of a jolt that it may be telling my fan that it's really hot out and therefore the fan should operate at high speed?
Incidentally... unless I was not clear, the fan turns off when I turn the car off, unlike some others. It just goes into high speed after a few seconds... but has now become intermittent... sometimes now it operates normally. My temp. gauge still reads normal at all times.
Thanks for your input.
