Resolved: What driver to use with 2014VIDA + DiCE unit from ebay?

Post by beewstew »

I have a Windows 10 VMWare system running VIDA2014d on a laptop. Virtual machine image came from https://volvodiag.com/

I bought a DiCE unit from ebay that looks just like the official ones from 2004 https://www.ebay.com/itm/365461556440
VIDA 2014d running on a Windows 10 VMWare VM. DiCE unit is attached, but is an unrecognized USB device.

When I plug the DiCE unit into the car I get a green LED.

When I plug the DiCE USB into the computer, I get a "do you want to connect this device to your VM?" window.
Yes, I do want to connect this to VIDA !

When I click yes and have the system attached to the VM, the Virtual machine says the DiCE/USB unit has an unknown driver.

Resolved: Has anyone been down this road? What driver do I need to use to get the system to recognize the DiCE USB device?

The DiCE unit came with an unlabeled CD. It contained two programs that seemed to help: SetupDiCE.exe and Scanmatik_2.21.22_Setup.exe With both of these installed on the virtual machine, the VIDA was able to communicate with the DiCE unit.
Hooray, it works!
Hooray, it works!

"SM2 USB"? I think you've got a fake DiCE. Don't do sw reloads with it.

Original DiCE says directly in VIDA that it is DiCE, and you can even update firmware in it using official DiCE firmware update tool. Mine is like that, I bought in 2010 or 11.

Yeah, I suspect as much. Did you buy one from ebay or the dealer?

Ebay. Guess, it was a night shift DiCE: same unit, just produced unaccounted ;) A downside for Volvo and upside for owners of moving production to a country with no intellectual property.
