Pierburg pulsation damper on fuel injector rail Volvo 855 GLT 1997

Post by jreed »

Has anybody had experience diagnosing or replacing the pulsation damper fitted to the back of the fuel injector rail? It's this unit indicated by the blue arrow below. I removed the metal clip covering the injectors so it's easier to see in the picture.

There is a good Pierburg service information document on this site that decribes the ticking noise that can result when the damper fails.
"Complaint: Noise
Complaints about noise can be pulsation noise in the fuel system. This noise can be heard as a rapid knocking or ticking and can also partly be felt on the fuel line.
Remedy
Renew pulsation damper".

There is a tick-ticking noise that is coming from the fuel injector area, noticeable at idle.

Fuel pressure damper is made by Pierburg and it is discontinued from Pierburg...and if i remember correctly...discontinued from Volvo too.

I replaced mine few years ago with part from junkyard because it was leaking intermitently and had ocassionally fuel smell in the cabin.

Here is the part#:

Some ticking should be normal, total failure of the fuel pressure regulator would cause fuel to leak into the vacuum lines. If this is not a pressure regulator, then ignore my post.... I can't tell from the picture, not familiar if dampeners are working differently.

I recommend that you take it apart and look for a part number. I don't know how many different fuel system configs there are; on my turbo it was a bosch FPR and you can still buy it with the bosch part number. 0 280 160 746 was used on mine.
Edit: seems this is not going to be helpful, sorry.

This setup is for M4.4 cars.
Damper on fuel rail instead of FPR and FPR is a lot smaller and it's moved at rear ...in fuel filter area.
S,v70 with M4.4 have the same setup.

Thanks, I looked it up, for returnless systems. I checked on skandix and some other shops, but not available as you said.
