Speedo problem
2001 V70 that had the typical speedo issue (needle stopped working). I sent the unit off and had it rebuilt by Autotech Rescue. Got it back and installed it and it was dead. Thought maybe the programming was bad. Had one sent from XeMODeX and the same thing it would only light the check engine light. Could I have blown a fuse or relay when I pulled it out to ship it for reprogramming?

I would start with finding proper electrical diagram(can be through vida or all data or other source like Mitchell) check all power and grounds going to the cluster. Use special fine needle probes which are quite cheap on Amazon and will not spread the pins. Prior to that, do a good visual check if all connectors are fitted properly and no bent pins/needle contacts on the cluster and connector side.
I believe clusters have to be vin specific, however xemodex would likely ask you that question and offer to program yours for extra fee.
