So, I don't use Vida a lot, but tried to connect to this car but the Dice unit is not happy for some reason. The lights on the front keep flashing and then the computer says it can't read the car.
If I connect my Autel 802, it connects up no problem and even reads the Vin#.
I thought it might be down to the DA using it, but took the stuff over to our son's 06 XC70 and it connected no problem.
Is there something I could be doing wrong on a P1? I considered maybe the OBD2 connection in the car could be bad, but perhaps the Autel connects differently some how?
Any help appreciated.
The car of course could have an issue preventing reading it. I don't know the history of the car during the 2nd owner's ownership. Current owner has issues with the car going into limp mode after a cylinder head replacement when the car gets warm. Some of the wires have damage repairs on the top of the engine and the owner found the ground disconnected from the back of the block. I thought running the car with the ground missing could have possibly caused issues with the ECU/ECM.
Having Vida working with the car would be a great help.
Thanks,
Neil.

If you Autel is connecting it tells you that pins 4,5 have decent ground and pin 16 has good power. As far as my novice understanding of car diagnostic goes- car "talks "on pins 6 and 14 which are can-high and can-low. It is possible that dice is more "demanding" to the quality of connection or voltages in comparison to Autel(just a thought). I would take small needle and check the pin drag at the obd port side. Maybe prior owners were testing it via regular voltmeter probes by front-probing and pin tension is not great for secure contact for Dice. Can possibly check quality of power and grounds via testing with 4amp test light between 16 and 4 and 16 and 5. Can compare to direct power from battery and 4 and 5. But if Autel is able to communicate Maybe it will be able to help you to what codes it throws after erase? Sorry I misread previous thread and thought car was just turning "off" instead of limp mode.

Kind of what I was thinking, but appreciate the suggestions on testing.

Vida is now talking to the C30! All the cleaning must have helped I'm thinking. I also used my newer laptop with Vida 2014D which worked great. Only issue (battery has been disconnected) is the CD player is faulty.
I believe the battery is an issue as I suspected following it being overcharged/heated when the repair shop left the engine ground disconnected.

Well it is talking to the car, but the car is not responding for running diagnostics. Live time diagnostics does not operate at all, the tab in Communications doe nothing.

Your another reader might have the capability add CAN Bus end resistors on fly if required. There was some chips capable doing that which then would tell why it has connection when dice doesnt or dice CAN Bus filters on PCB are replaced with resistors etc.

Car is now with Volvo for diagnostics. Sounds like they are now able to get running data. Sounds like they are having 'FUN' as well. At least the car has thrown them a couple of codes now. I doubt they are genuine codes as nearly every fuel related part has now thrown a code including Throttle body and air leak, MAF, TCV and more. Latest anomaly is the BCM now has coded. I think like me they are starting to believe it may be the CEM or ECM or possibly both or a wiring issue. I guess we may find out later today!
Thanks for the help!

I am afraid that in "true dealer fashion" they will say that it needs entire engine harness and a new ECM. I keep my fingers crossed to be proven dead wrong.

Nope a new turbo. They found someone (not me!) had dropped a nut into the turbo housing. It did not go well. Quote for $3300 CDN to replace and a warning aluminum pieces could make their way into the engine. Yikes!
