Comparison of vacuum oil change vs conventional method.

Post by Vova585 »

2016 xc70 T5(5cyl).
Despite wonderful recommendations from Volvo to change oil every 10k I prefer to change it every 5k(or once a year whichever happens first). Since on this car you dont have to drop the splash guard to change oil filter, I decided to compare vacuum oil change method (from Harbor Freight 2.3 gal. capacity) vs "old school".
After vacuum suction was complete I was able to drain 120cc of oil after removing drain plug.
You be a judge if you would want to drive on ramps, drop splash shield, remove drain plug...vs 10min oil change. Since this car has no magnetic drain plug i dont see the reason for 120cc of oil(5k on oil not 10k+) to make it harder on myself(getting old and lazy).
Wish this method would work for newer 4cyl engines, but someone cheapped out on oil stick.
