1999 V70 XC - rear brake cable replacement - cable sheered off

So I've run into a jam. Got everything up the tunnel and through the side of the rear footwell, that was somewhat easy.

Now the issue - the old cable snapped (jacket and cable) where it goes into the rear parking brake/etc assembly on the back side and was previously whipping around when and where it wanted. Is there a magical way to get this chunk of old cable out that doesn't involve my drilling it out? If not, does anyone know the size of the stubby bit I need to accomplish this?

In the interim, new cable end is zip tied to the muffler bracket. Drivable but not inspectable...

Can you take a picture of what the issue is? I cannot picture in my pea brain what the challenge is.

I'd rather do AWD than a FWD parking brake cable!
