Hi I have just rebuilt the xc90 engine after the water pump seized and threw off the timing belt. It's been a bit tedious but I'm nearly there. But, I have a spring left over in my box of bits and I can't place where it came from or goes. Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance

Being how it is a diesel, not many on this side of the Atlantic may know as we don't have diesels here.
However, it may be a spring for one of the bolts holding a heat shield in place on the exhaust manifold to stop it rattling.
I can't find it on a D5 engine parts list, but on an older engine I am familiar with it may be the parts shown as #17 and #21 in this drawing:

It looks like a diff lock return spring used on Volvo articulated haulers, like an A35C. That being said, could be a return spring for some sort of actuator on your car.
