Use to have a 98 S70 T5 back in 2012. Currently a 00 S70 SE NA. Both are not that sensitive to transmission fluid though I found the Swepco 714 20W to work best for most of my cars transmissions. Worked especially well on the 98 S70 T5 with a complete flush. Mine was coffee dark with a hew of sliver at 230K miles when purchased. The 4 speed in the 98 is a strong transmission compared to the 99 and 00 5 speeds. I like the shift better. Currently have 5 auto Volvos to compare with and 1 M66.
.
This should work well.
Now $6.98
Castrol Transmax Import Multi-Vehicle Automatic Transmission Fluid, 1 Quart

.
Was under $6 when I started using it maybe 20 years ago. I only stock this as an additive due to cost although I recently found a Close Out so stocked up. Will use one or four quarts after a drain and fill or complete flush.

Swepco 714 Hydraulic Transmission Fluid Type TO-4/C-4 20wt. Gal.

The 4-speed automatics originally took Dex/Merc, but Volvo has said JWS3309 is also OK and may give smoother lockup engagement (Tech Net Note 40-04 and Service Bulletin 43-0029). One option for JWS3309 is Toyota T-IV, part number 00279-000T4-01 for 1 quart or 00279-000T4-6S for 6 quarts, about $6 a quart from the Toyota dealer. Many people are running this in their Volvos.

In my '97 855 GLT (~260k miles), I have had good results with Castrol transmax high mileage ATF, with wife reporting smoother shifting compared to Castrol Dex Merc, the previous fluid I used.
1997 855 GLT (Light Pressure Turbo) still going strong. Previous: 1986 240 GL rusted out in '06, 1985 Saab 900T rusted out in '95, 1975 Saab 99 rusted out in '95, 1973 Saab 99 rusted out in '94

Valvoline Dex6 Synthetic recommended by Volvo tech jimmy57 here. Great price in the jungle if you wait a month or two.
