I have the infamous 2001 automatic AW55-50 transmission with 256k miles. I've noticed a slight click sound when in a gentle acceleration, say in a parking lot, when passing through about 10mph. It doesn't seem harmful and I feel nothing, but was wondering if anyone has had the same issue and what they recommend doing about it if there is anything to do. The wagon runs amazingly well.

I had a click from the outer cv axle, it had failed and had a click sound, something was shifting inside the ball bearings or tripod.
As we moved the car forward, while in Park, the driveshaft had a click and shifted backwards.

Does it only do it once when taking off for the first time after engine start? It seems that I recall something about a “click” sound in the ABS when you first take off that is perfectly normal. But memory doesn’t always serve me well.

It seems almost guaranteed to do it on the first time after engine start. But will do it after as well. It is more noticeable when accelerating gently. ABS would be an interesting culprit, it doesn't sound 'harmful' or damaging to me.chrism wrote: 21 Sep 2025, 08:46 Does it only do it once when taking off for the first time after engine start? Interesting, so I should put the car in park and attempt to push it forward/backward and listen for a click?dikidera wrote: 21 Sep 2025, 01:59 I had a click from the outer cv axle, it had failed and had a click sound, something was shifting inside the ball bearings or tripod.
