Hi All,
Am newbie here, i have xc90 2006 2.5t
Recently i changed the timing belt with water pump and pully and all related to that job. Drove the car a week and got a red massage and checked that my water became milky, changed oil cooler with turbo and refreshed oil twice with transmission oil.
Drove the car and still red light there and found out the cap is broke and changed it.
Now the mechanic says i need to have a head gasket kit with lifters (20) and also pcv upper hose to be changed. Is there anything missing in previous changes.
Changing alot

Sorry, but it is quite possible that you misdiagnosed the car and replaced turbo and oil cooler without them being a cool print. I woukd suggest to take it to a dedicated engine repair place and ask them to look at it. They will be able to do more tests and give you better understanding of the state of your engine(compression, look inside the cylinders, test exhaust gases in coolant, coolant pressure..). You dont want to replace headgasket just to discover that lower part of the engine is gone.

a leaking head gasket can cause coolant to go out the tailpipe. other signs are water in the oil if the underside of the filler cap is milky thats a sign. also the pressure of the combustion chambers can push water int the reservoir bottle so you may see odd fluctuations of the water bottle level. possible for a shop to check for ehaust fumes int he water bottle.
if a head gasket leaks it can basically steam clean a cylinder bore. I bought a cheap boroscope that plugs into a cell with one of thise you can look in through the plug hole and look for differences,
if you star the car and hang around the tail pipe se eif you see water coming out. thats a sign it may smell like coolant.
a failed oil cooler may also cause oil and water to mix together
also the reverse can happen, oil in the water.
the engine relies on the 02 sensor and if that is wet it may not function properly.
id be causeful about too much water in the oil ,, you dont want the oil pump to be pumping water int the crank journals etc. Id change the oil. if you do it again after a head gasket job, so be it.
you may not want to remove the head if the problem is related to the oil cooler, if it has one.
