Stage 3 to Stage 0

Post by MoVolvos »

.
I mentioned in my "2007 S60 Project 2.5T" post in April I have Stage 3 cancer. I'm currently on my 3rd week of rest or break before the next set of the 3 treatment TNT protocol.

So far 25 treatments / 5 weeks of radiation with 6 low dose chemo pills each day M-F with weekend breaks. 8 weeks of full Chemo is next then more rest before surgery.

Instead of rest been bedridden for hours each day with pain from the chemo pill, radiation damage and other complications. Chemo hurts all the joints in the body and mind is not as sharp with fatigue. Lost 10 lbs in 8 weeks due to pain, lack of appetite and cancer taking a portion of nutrition being taking in. Skin can feel like having sunburn with temperature changes. Lost normal use to one hand due to thumb swelling and unable to bend. The skin on the hands have darkened like that of the queen before her passing. The chemo attacks the good and weak cells also. Perhaps the most overuse extremity are the hands then feet which has nephropathy. All the toes are swollen with joint pain. Previous injuries to knee and back are also more painful.

The entire pelvic area has inflammation from radiation. Adding some complications any elimination is mind numbing pain for hours. As for the pain meds, I've tapered off so am able to determine where the pains are and not hiding any other unforeseen problems. The pain meds also have side effects so decided to bear the pain and go off. Wasn't that effective for what I have now. Despite this I've pushed through each day by the grace of God to just bear it and do a little work here and there besides a little walk and stretches.

Will see the surgeon soon to see if I can have surgery first as the low dose chemo has done so much harm not sure I can handle the full dose 8 weeks of treatment. I hope no one reading this will not go through with cancer treatment due to my unusual suffering under the TNT Treatment Protocol as mine is late Stage 3 and it's larger than usual. Many cancers patients don't feel much side effects depending on the type as I found out speaking with others in the waiting area.

Oh man my thoughts are with you. That's terrible you have to go through this. Your thumb does look swollen. If it all works is there a chance you'll be cancer free?

Hi Matt,

The Radiologist, Oncologist and Surgeon all told me I can be cancer free though they said I might have undetectable Stage 4. Since I'm hoping for surgery first as I don't think I can tolerate any more Chemo I'm not sure how things will work out. Those who have opted for surgery first and had complications couldn't start or continue after starting Chemo as the 3rd protocol.

Worldwide as it stands the medical community do not track patients after 5 years so no clinical data on long term survival though my Radiologist have had patients live to 10 year or more perhaps as they don't track. I did some research on quality of life after TNT and they are just starting to talk about a need to do some research, YIKES! My worst fear is enduring all of this and then quality of life is just as bad or worst. Hate to be burden on the family.
.
Blessings,

Sorry to hear that your going through all that and wish you the best on your future treatment and recovery. It sounds like you are doing everything you can to get the best possible outcome. It also looks like you're keeping busy doing Volvo work which is sometimes therapeutic on its own. Wishing you well and take care.

Thank you. It's a luxury to be able to take a drive to Costco for fuel and tire pressure check :D .

I had several major cancer surgeries in 2018, plus heart failure (stent), I'm still here 7 yrs later but it took a solid yr to recover from surgery.
my wife is funny, out of the blue she asks "how do I turn the water off?" I know what she's thinking.
I feel quality of recovery depends on spiritual condition, is the patient reconciled to their mortality.
Pain visits every life, as does death, whether I suffer is fully dependent on what I do with my pain, where do i place my ultimate reliance.
In that regard pain is unavoidable but suffering is a choice.
