Seatbelt keeps locking undelr slight pulling...

c30 2008 driver side belt tensioner keeps locking.
Sometimes it pulls ok and with enough slow back and forth i manage to get the length to buckle.
Sometimes it take a few minutes, and its so frustrating to get it to a usable length.
is there a trick to fix, or do i need to get a new part?

Over time the belt mechanism fills up with fluff from your clothes and eventually causes the locking mechanism to get tricky. I recently worked on a friends C30 with exactly this same issue. I did offer to take a look but they needed the car back so it is one for the future.

Removing it is fiddly, and only do so with the battery disconnected first. Once removed, vaccuum and blow it with compressed air to clear the fluff and build up and it will likely be fine again.
