The other issue is how do they fit? Both versions as I recall, have an 'outer' sleeve that fits through the holes in the metal door first, then the locking portion fits inside this and is locked in place by a center pin that is pushed through the clips middle locking the barbs in place.
All good you would think. No. If you look at the parts drawing it would infer the outer sleeve fits into the door holes first , and then the panel is fitted in place, then the locking portion fits through the inner panel and locks into the sleeve. This is how I recall the 'better' design working. It has a solid inner lock pin, that to release you push inwards on the clip until you hear/feel it lock into the clip but allows you then to pry it outward and the clip is reset by pushing the pin from the back of the clip until it sits proud of the top face, and again it locks in place waiting re-use. Should they break, you can buy the pins separate from the sleeve for buttons from this place in the UK:

I don't mean you get 2 complete units, although this would kind of suggest they do (they don't).

The bigger issue with this possibly 'newer' version is some of the sleeves have a hole at the far end from the clip. The get the clip to release from the door you have to push the locking pin fully through the clip. Where the sleeve has a hole in it's end the pins shoots through the hole never to be found again at the bottom of the door. Some have a solid end and then you can just pull the clip out the sleeve and retrieve the pin and re-use it.

I foolishly decided to try to retrieve some of these small pins from the bottom of the door as I did not have enough to refit the panel.
You cannot access the bottom of the door (where there is a really narrow crevice for the pins to fall into), because there is a white plastic honeycomb that fits across the bottom of the door (presumably for crash crumple reduction). It is held in by 3 T25 screws into the bottom inner steel panel. However, in typical Volvo fashion, "Oh, there is something random that we can make a simple job hard. Lets use a flimsy wiring tie with barbs and fit it into this so no one can get the plastic out without breaking the tie!"
I did manage to wrestle it up into the door eventually to retrieve the missing pins. Why-oh-why.................!
So a simple job ended up taking over an hour which should have taken only 15 minutes to complete. Sounds about right!
I have looked at 2 cars in the junkyard and our 06 V70 AWD have this style. Our 06 XC70 has the alternate version:

In the description, they look like they may fit this to only 03-05, however these were fitted to the 02 XC70 I worked on. This is the outer sleeve section that the drawing shows fits directly to the hole in the door under the inner panel:

Oh, the question, in the 'newer' version does the sleeve fit in the same way as the other version, or does it fit from the outside of the door inner panel and act as a locating pin, then the clip is fitted afterwards?
