Power Steering Leak (V70, 2004, 2.5T)I

I managed to at least identify my leak as power steering fluid. But I have not been able to pinpoint the source. The attached picture is taken looking pretty much straight down. There is a lot of fluid on the flat surface right in front of the crank pulley. It would appear as though it's coming from above and collecting there. What is the metal pipe indicated by one of the red arrows? It has fluid residue on it.

I am planning to degrease everything and then see if I can determine where the leak starts. I have also considered using some UV dye.

I know that the PS reservoirs are prone to leaking at the seams but it would not appear that this is the case here.

Red pipe is the air conditioning low-pressure line I believe.

Likely your leak at the reservoir. Pull it and inspect it. It's been covered in other threads to update to the 2005 model.

This could also be cam seal leaks (mostly exhaust cam seal). BTDT...

It appears that the leak is from where the suction hose attaches to the bottom of the PS reservoir. It then drips down onto the metal AC refrigerant line (thanks, @br0dy519) and runs along the bottom of that until it gets to the low point and then drips down. I recently replaced the coolant reservoir and had to remove the hoses from the PS reservoir in the process. That hose had been on for 22 years and probably got damaged while I was removing it. Volvo only wants $154 (FCPeuro) for a new hose. Unlike with the coolant reservoir, I decided to go aftermarket for the suction hose. I am reluctant to declare victory yet but am cautiously optimistic that a new hose will fix the problem. Bob

I used a hose cutter and cut back about a 1/2" then snugged up a new clamp on when I had the issue.

I considered going that hose cut-back route (as a thrifty Yankee) but uncharacteristically opted for a new hose. But thanks for the tip! I also thought about a second hose clamp.

Careful because the old version reservoir has snorkels that break….
