Fuel Quick connect accidental disconnect on highway

Cars with the quick connect fuel line fitting. Its been a few years since i changed the fuel filter and i do remember making sure the fitting was secure. However it appears the plastic insert (button) was worn and un-clipped itself while driving. With a small screwdriver i was able to replace just the plastic insert rather than the whole fitting. As a further pre-caution i used lock-wire so it never comes apart by accident.

The problem is fine dirt gets under the compression tabs and makes them sticky. Often getting them off in the first place its the issue

My mechanic buddy uses a large pair of side cutters and cuts the outlet pipes off the ends of the fuel filter and then uses a lot of cleaner (WD-40/brake cleaner) to clean the tabs so and work the filter pipe remnants until it will release and then snap back fully on refitting.

Finally, he wraps the connections with tape (painters or the like) to keep dirt out of the connectors for next time.

I am with Brody519. What was your source of plastic tab? You can buy rear fuel line for $80, front one is not available. Possibly tra splant from repair kit that fcp offers for about $35?
