Ignition key won't turn

Hello all, my '02 S40's ignition isnt working. The key will only turn about half way to position 1 before it just stops.

Ive tried all the quick fixes that I could see online; wiggling the wheel, jiggling the key, tapping the face, dry lube. Nothing has helped. I have a feeling its the tumblers that are stuck, because otherwise the key turns like normal, as in its not stuck or hard to turn, it just won't turn very far.

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated as I can't really afford to take it to a shop if I can help it.

I should also not that while the key teeth are worn a bit, the key has always worked just fine, it was working fine Friday afternoon, then just didnt want to work again Saturday.

Welcome to MVS, DisgruntledTorch. Do you have a 2nd key to try?

Study this thread for two ways to fix what is likely your problem. Buy a new tumbler and replace or remove the locking portion.

The basic process also works on P2 vehicles (2001 and up). I did the lock removal process to my 2001 V70 several years ago.

Unfortunately I dont have a second key, my original set got stolen a few years ago, and I couldnt/ still can't afford a new one to get programmed.

Ive been trying to take the tumbler system out, but short of taking the whole housing out, all I've seen is to drill a new hole to get to the release pin. Im at a loss for what to do here

Circled area is the hole to release the pin

The small square piece next to the circled area i believe is the looking area, which i tried removing today with no luck. Id prefer not to hack it apart if I can help it.
