Reliability of '07 V70 versus XC70

Post by steve »

I am looking to buy either a new '07 V70 or a new '07 XC70 before the new redesigned '08 hits the market. I do not want to get an '08 for fear that it will be like the 2001 models that everyone shys /runs away from.

Can anybody give any advice as to the pros and cons of the two '07 models in terms of their reliability.

We will be replacing our current Volvo.

Thanks in advance.

Only difference is the AWD which has become pretty reliable (finally)

Thanks, JRL as I was wondering about the AWD system's reliability. I have had a AWD Jeep w/quadratrac in the past that had to have its Viscous coupling in the transfer case replaced due to wear at 58K mi. Does the XC70 have a similar power transfer device in it's transfer case??

I also am interested in the reliability of the Turbo and any other '07 model year specific problems or quirks that I should know of before I buy.

I realize the '07s have not been on the market very long but if there are major problems which show up early, I want to know about them now.

Angle gear.
It still can fail but not nearly as often as the older Viscous coupling

Angle Gear?? Can you elaborate at bit?
Is this a ring and pinion type of set up??

Where can I find more information?

Would regular gear oil changes help as a preventative measure?

No not really
The angle gear is the AWD gear that gets the signal from the Haldex unit.
They have been known to leak but I believe Volvo has that problem solved now. When they go, they just GO, period with no warning, you're into 2WD, but it's not all THAT common
You don't change the oil like you can in the old bevel gear
