Windshield "Rainex"

Post by markvt »

Has anyone tried Rainex on their windshield? What were the results? Someone told me they had great results on a Honda? Are there any downsides to trying it? I once put it on the plastic windshield of a motorcyle and it was a disaster.

Are you asking about the Rainex exterior that prevents water beading up so you can still drive after your wipers quit, or are you asking about the Rainex interior that prevents fog from forming?

I was talking about the stuff for the outside. Didn't know there was something available for the inside.

I've seen it but never used it.

I use it on all my vehicles, and also use their washer fluid. It works as advertised, although not as well on an older windshield that may have some minor pitting.
I use it on the face shield of my helmet, too, as I race an open car. Wonderful stuff, in my estimation.

Jeff,
I guess that is one of my questions. My 240 has it's original windshield and it has thousands of minute pits. I was wondering if the Rainex would cause problems when light hit it with the pits. I'm worried about sunny day driving and nite driving.

Rainex will actually help it a little, but the real solution is a new windshield. I just replaced the original one in my 87 740 with 230000 miles. As soon as I got the new one it became obvious that night driving with the old one had not been safe. I had gotten used to it and didn't realize how bad it was until compared to the new one. Sounds like yours might be that bad!

I've considered that I could use a new windshield. I'm actually considering the rainex for another car with a good windshield. I'm just wondering if there are any downsides to using it. Do you know how to get it off if I don't like it?

I used rainx on my first Volvo years ago when it first came out, and it was great! The antifog stuff the jury is still out, as I experienced intermittent fogging, but that was 15 years ago!

Speaking of pits and such, is there a polishing method to remove or blend the scratches and pits to save the cost and headache of a new windshield? I see they have it now for all types of eyeglasses?

If you don't like it don't put it on any more. It slowly goes away and you have to re-apply every month or two.I can't imagine anyone not liking it. You can't see it, it just makes your windshield work better in the rain. Be brave and try it! Let us know how you like it.
