S40 T4 Engine
S40 T4 Engine
Hi, Im considering placing a T4 engine in my 440. Before i start i was firstly wondering if this has been done before..But more importantly if any1 has any information on a removed engine..Can it be run on the floor (out of the vehicle) I have been told that it will not run once in my 440 but i cant see why not? If i remove then engine..connect the wiring loom + ECU up surely it will run?

Have you ever done a job like this before?
I assume you intend changing the transmission at the same time as the 440 gearbox is not compatible with the S40.
The engine/transmission mountings are totally different on the two cars so there will be some cutting and welding to do.
Exhaust and cooling systems are different.
Possibly you have been told that it will not run in your 440 because the wiring loom and the ECU of the 440 are not compatible with the S40 engine.
This is a major project which requires mechanical and electronic knowledge. It is not a simple job of removing one engine and replacing it with another. If you want a turbo engine, Volvo did produce one for the 440 and that would be an easier project.
Bill.

Only if it is fastened securely in a cradle and, if it is to be run for any length of time, has a cooling system attached. Can it be run on the floor (out of the vehicle)

Hey. yes ive had a few 440 turbo's but now i want to make something special. Im a Multi Skilled Engineer by trade so i do alot of fabrication + welding, so that part is fine. I realise everything is different. E.g Wiring loom,Ecu,Gearbox..I was just wondering if i remover the engine,ECU, Wiring loom etc from a s40 t4, will it be possible to run it in a crib (as i have been told that it will not) Which I believe u have now answered for me. Let the fun commence!
