940 hood catch not working

On my 940, the passenger side hood release is no longer returning to position when when I release hood release lever. It does "open" along with the drivers side when I open the hood. If I use a tool to reach into the assembly I can move the catch back into position so that I can safely close the hood.
It seem like there is a return spring that is broken? How does this little bugger work and how can I get at it to fix it? It looks like everything is buried behind the radiator.
