Hi All,
Just purchased a 96 850 GLT, and am checking it out for all the obvious problems. Apparantly, the flame trap was not changed on a regular basis, it was pretty clogged up so I replaced it. The Vacuum line connection that connects to the flame trap had turned to goo. I realize I probably should rebuild the pcv system, but cannot afford that just yet. Can this tube be replaced without removing the intake, or should I try splicing into the current hose to get me by a while.

If it is the line I think you are talking about, I don't think so. The part is available as single item but you will also need and intake gasket. Check the diagrams at FCP Groton.
Hopefully "a while" is a short while. A clogged PCV system = a blown rear main seal.

I was able to tear into the car this weekend, and realized that the line coming to the flame trap was a hard line, and that what had turned to goo was a rubber connector that connected to the hard plastic line and the flame trap. I replaced the rubber connector, and the pcv system seems to be working fine now. The car passes the smoke in the dipstick tube test, as well as the oil cap is now easy to remove after shutting off the engine.
At 130K i still need to plan on replacing the pcv system, but at least now i can plan the job.
