1989 740 FUEL PROBLEM HELP PLEASE
1989 740 GLE 98000 MILES. CAR JUST STOPS RUNNING. FUEL CUT OFF. SOMETIMES I CAN PUMP THE PEDAL AND IT WILL START GOING AGAIN. REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP RELAY. THIS WAS NOT IT, ALL FUSES ARE OK. IM THINKING COIL OR FILTERS. SOMETIMES VERY HARD TO START AFTER IT CUTS OFF. GETTING DANGEROUS TO DRIVE NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL CUT OFF. ANY HELP PLEASE. SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS KEY STUCK.

do you know the fuel is cutting out? When the fuel pump gets worn it will warm up expand and the brushes no longer touch. When problme occurs tap on fuel pump with somthing then see if it willl start. If this has no effect check for spark, check for fuel at spark plugs, go from there.......

IT ALWAYS RE-STARTS . IF I PUMP THE GAS PEDAL -- WHEN COLD THE CAR RUNS GREAT. IT SEEMS THE GAS JUST CUT RIGHT OFF. NO WARNING --HOWEVER SOMETIMES THERE IS OVERRUN THEN I HAVE TO SHUT THE KEY OFF THEN RESTART.

The coil and fuel filter will very rarely fail, if ever.
Do you have any trouble codes?
I believe this has an RPM sensor, that might be it.
Other common possibilities are the MAF sensor, fuel pump, ignition power stage, and the engine control unit for starters.
