HELP - MY MECHANIC SWITCHEDMY CAR

Post by joob55 »

HEY,

I GOT MY S60 VOLVO ABOUT 4-5 MONTHS AGO, IN MINT CONDITION, AND WAS RECENTLY INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT (SOME GUY RAN ME OFF THE ROAD AND LEFT). I TOOK MY CAR IN TO THE INSURANCE PREFERRED SHOP. THE MECHANIC HAD MY CAR FOR A MONTH WHEN HE ORIGINALLY TOLD ME THE JOB TAKES 1.5 WEEKS AND WAS VERY SHADY ABOUT THE DELAY.

WHEN I GOT IT BACK AND I BEGAN TO NOTICE DIFFERENCES IN THE INTERIOR: NEW SCRATCHES, RIPS IN THE LEATHER, HUGE LEAK IN MY DOOR, LOUD METAL SCRAPING NOISE WHILE I DRIVE, LOUD SQUEAKS WHEN I TURN.... THE LIST GOES ON. LIKE ANYONE WHO LOVES THEIR CAR, I KNOW EVERY NICK AND CRANNY SO I NOTICED EVERYTHING. WHAT CONVINCED ME THAT MY CAR WAS SWITCHED.... THERE WAS A SCRATCH ON THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE (INSIDE) THAT I ACCIDENTLY MADE MYSELF AND CAUSED ME MUCH PAIN EVERYTIME I WOULD SEE IT...THE SCRATCH IS GONE. (HE SPECIFICALLY TOLD ME HE DIDNT REPLACE THE DOORS). ALSO, ONE OF THE BUTTONS ON THE DRIVERSIDE FLOOR THAT CLIPS THE FLOOR MATT WAS MISSING...NOW IT'S NOT.

THERE IS MECHANIC GREASE ALL OVER THE VIN NUMBER SCREWS SO I KNOW THEY WERE TAMPERED WITH. I AM SOOOOO UPSET ABOUT THIS SITUATION BECAUSE WITH NO PROOF THERE'S NOTHING I CAN DO. I'M TAKING IT IN TO VOLVO TOMORROW TO CHECK IF THE SERIAL NUMBER ON THE ENGINE MATCHED THE VIN, BUT IF HE DID AN ENGINE SWAP AND JUST WANTED THE BODY I'M STUCK. I KNOW THIS ISN'T THE BODY OF MY CAR AND GET THIS.....HE DRIVES AN S80, SAME COLOR, THAT HE GOT FROM A JUNK FOR $1,700 AND RESTORED IT.

IS THERE ANY OTHER WAY I CAN TELL ON THE BODY IF THE CAR WAS SWITCHED.
I APPRECIATE ANY HELP YOU CAN OFFER. THANKS SO MUCH. I MISS MY BABY :(

I believe there's a number on the chassis too. Not sure where it is on your car and how to match it up to the VIN, but it would be worth looking into. The dealer could tell you.

Go to your state police (really)
Also a Volvo dealer can put it on the computer and it should say which chassis you really have.
There are other places the VIN is on the car
What does the door sticker VIN say?
Is it even there?????

NO...THE STICKER IS MISSING THAT'S SUPPOSED TO SAY THE VIN ON THE DOOR

Will you PLEASE stop TYPING in ALL CAPS!
That is YELLING.
What year is this car?
An 01 or later, the radio doesn't have a number code as it's built in the car
As I said, stop yelling and go to the state police if you really think this is not your car.
HOWEVER....
Think about it, would he happen to have the exact same car with all the same equipment just hanging around?

The other thing is the mileage, unless that car had the exact same mileage.....
You can't just enter the mileage on these odometers like an older car.
To me it just sounds as if the repair job was piss poor.
Exactly how bad was the damage?
This whole deal is very odd

Well what is the status? Did the mechanic switch out your car or what.
