96 850 Turbo actual odometer reading

I replaced the gears in the Odometer and would like to know the actual mileage. Is there any way to do this w/o an obdII tool. The 96 850 doesnt have the a/b/boxes. I am going to sell this car and would like to be up front to who ever buys it.

Without the diagnostic boxes, I don't know of a way but maybe the dealer can do it with their scan tool.

I figures out how to reset the ABS and Check engine lights w/o using the dealer. Just disconnect the battery for 10 min or so and everythig reset. My ABS light went out and hasnt come back on since I did this, it is also true for the Check engine light. But I think the cehck engine light hasnt come on due to me replacing the front o2 sensor.

We're talking about reading the actual mileage of the car when the odometer has not been turning for awhile....not how to reset the lights.

I'm quite sure you cant read the actual mileage on a 1996. Not until 1998 when they went to a digital odometer can you read the mileage via the scan tool.

The process below worked just fine on my '94 850. From VS.

How to read mileage off A7 socket:

1. Switch ignition on.
2. Plug wire to module A, terminal 7.
3. Push button 5 times.
4. When LED comes on and before it goes out, enter code 1-1-1 as follows:
- press button once while LED is still on
- wait for LED to go out and come on again
- press button once while LED is still on
- wait for LED to go out and come on again
- press button once while LED is still on
- wait for LED to go out and come on again
- read off the response, which will be the last three digits of the odometer miles or km
5. Repeat steps 3 to 4 but enter code 1-1-2 (that is, press the button twice on the last step); read off the response, which will be the first three digits of the odometer miles or km. Numbers that are zeros will read as 10 blinks.

You are correct on '94 and '95 850's that have the diagnostic boxes under the hood, but from '96 they did away with these boxes.

That's for an OBDI system, if I'm not mistaken. He's got a 96, which would be ODBII.

Sorry, I didn't know that.

The older system sure works slick. I've put together a DTC crib sheet to keep in the glove box (hope I don't need it too often!). Too bad that easy access to info isn't available for newer models.
