Opening cowl to access main pollen filter

Post by jmorgan »

I'm trying to change the main pollen filter on my 2001 V70 but I'm running into some problems. Instead of torx screws (as pictured on the volvospeed site) there are (were) some black plastic anchors/clips which I couldn't figure out how to remove so I eventually cut them off. Was there a correct way to remove these clips? Is this just Volvo's way of discouraging owners from doing a simple filter swap themselves (the dealer wanted $75 for this). Then when I got inside the cowl, there was no filter, just an air intake port on the passenger side. Is this where the main pollen filter is supposed to be? Maybe the dealership just tossed it during the last service because it was too loaded and I didn't agree to pay for the replacement. I know there's also a filter inside under the passenger kick panel too (accessory cabin filter) which I was able to access.
Thanks,
John

I've read that some 850's/70's came with pollen filters; others didn't. Haven't been able to infer a corellation.

Don't know about the fasteners.
