Outside Door handle problem, 1998, S70

Post by krom »

Hi to all,

The outside door handle of the front passanger side does not open the door. However, I can open the door from the inside and unlock it. Also, the outside door handle does move when it is pulled. The problems seems to be that it does not engage. Does anybody have any suggestions on what to look for when trying to fix this problem (i.e. name, location, and cost of broken piece)? Thank you for help and any information will be appreciated.

probably disconnected inside. You'll have to take the inside door panel off to see.

It may be that you need a new lock module. I am having a similar problem and everyone is telling me the same thing.

No, that will not be the same cause as your problem.

The problem in this thread is most likely a single broken mechanical connection in the latch mechanism. It's not related to the lock module at all.

Yes,you will need to remove the interior door panel. Usually there are a few different metal rods that pivot when you pull the handle. Once you have the panel off, window in the up position, have someone pull the outside lever and with a flashlight, look inside at the mechanism to see if one of the rods is just off or if one is broken. Usually one of the ends is just pulled out of the plastic
