S80 T6 year2000: brake fluid, motor oil

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

S80 T6 year2000: brake fluid, motor oil

Post by trekking »

I am looking for the type/brand of the OEM Volvo brake fluid. Can anyone tell me what it is, or point me to a forum where it was discussed?

For the motor oil , as far as I know, at least in Hungary and in Italy, Castrol TXT Softec 5w40 is largely used by Volvo repair shops. Unfortunately this seems to be phased out by Castrol now. In Volvo docs ( http://www.volvocars.co.uk/NR/rdonlyres ... 07UKv5.pdf ) I see some Castrol SLX R-Tec as recommended, but I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know something about the difference?

Thanks,
trekking

What is your location? That would help us immensely.
About the brake fluid, Volvo specifies DOT4+ What is sold on www.fcpgroton.com works very well and is at a great savings.
I need your location information to address the engine oil, but many of us use Mobil-1 synthetic in our cars. What matters is that it is from a reputable company and that the oil weight is correct for your area (owners manual tells you this). Synthetic oil is advised if you have a turbo.

I'm in Europe, in Hungary. The car is a T6. Here we have castrol oils at a friendly price, and I've managed to find some TXT Softec for this oil change .... but I'm already gathering info for the next one

For the brake fluid, this will be my first change and I had no idea what to take. At the place you've pointed at they sell ATE. Thanks for the tip!

I'm running Mobil 1 5w30 in my car.

MIJ is correct on the brake fluid: DOT 4+ is specified. Don't know if you have Wal-Mart there in Hungary, but here in the U.S. they have DOT 4+ for $2.58 U.S. a pint (about 1/2 liter).
