A thermostat really has nothing to do with AC only heat.
The most probable is that your evaporator is broken (rust) causing the freon to leak out BUT... this is usually a slow process, the AC usually doesn't crap out in a day so take it to a pro to have it checked out.
If it IS the evaporator, be prepared to spend $1500 or so, this is a nasty 10 hour job, the entire dashboard has to be removed.
Hopefully
it's something else

You can try blowing the crud out of it first with some compressed air...if it's truly shot, you can take the radio out, then gently push out on it from behind it and then replace the sensor with a clip on connector. Go to a bone yard and pull one from a wrecked car or if you have to buy a new one, the part # is 9145736. http://www.foreigncarpartsonline.com/ (fcpgroton's online parts store) has them for $41.73 plus shipping.

Service light on your S70 is dealer only OR...a Draper Tool (which I have...look on eBay) or a couple of other tools that are on the market or mechanic who has access to these. It's not a simple, "push this button down or hold this button while you...." ordeal. That light is annoying. My suggestion is if you have time to do this, take the dash cover off, pull the instrument panel out and take the silly bulb out. It does nothing for you anyway except reminds you that service is due (which you should be keeping up with anyway). Good luck!

Precisely...but if you service them yourself (like I do) it's nice not to have that light on. Main thing here is to not ignore the service!

thanks for the service light reply-i think i can manage to remember the service without the silly light coming on. As for my cabing temperature sensor-I used the compressed air as recommended and it half worked. Now i can control the temperature on the drivers side, but the passenger side only blows hot...
