CORRECT ROTOR SIZE 89 740GL SEDAN

Post by PROJECT MAN »

I am working on a friend's 1989 740 GL sedan, non turbo, auto, with 15 inch wheels with a 170,000 miles. He was told by someone that had worked on his car that he had the wrong size caliper and possible the rotor on one side in the front. The car is metal to metal on one side and pads on the other are fine. I would assume that the caliper is sticking, so I am replacing rotors, pads and calipers as to avoid any further front brake issues. My problem is the parts people want to know rotor size for correct replacement and I don't know what to tell them. The rotors are vented, looks like I see Girling on the caliper and the master cyl. is Ate. ANY HELP? Thanks

Hi, hopefully this can help you a little. Originally the bigger rotor was mostly used on turbo versions and also used together with 15 inch weels. The diameter of the smaller rotor is 14 inch and the bigger is 15 mm.

You also need to know if you have ABS or not, same for the caliper. When looking into Swedish sparepart list I get the impression that if you know that you have Girling calipers for 15 inch rotor, it is just a question if you have ABS or not.
