Rocker/console switches bulb replacement for 850

This is a brief attempt to show how to tackle the replacement of the bulbs in the rocker switches.These switches control the windows, "bum" warmer,sun roof etc. etc.

1)Remove the switch/s using a very flat bladed screw driver.

2)Open the switch by gently prying at these points in the picture below.(4 in total)


3)The copper "rocker" will fall out do not loose it,note the orientation on the switch.

4)You will need bulbs, 12v 3.1X6.4mm W/wire from an electronics store. The amount will depend on how many you need to fix.

5)De-solder the old bulb and insert the new bulb and re-solder.

6)Before closing, test that the bulb works using a battery or cell phone charger and "jumper" the wires.

7)Put all the pieces in and slide the top down ensuring you do not unhinge the rocker.

8)Make sure you do not loose any of the "catches"when you close up the switch.

9)Re-install in vehicle.

As posted in other requests about these switches, Radioshack (US) and The Source (Canada) sell the necessary bulb. Part number is 272-1092 (US) or 2721092 (Canada). They are 12V 60mA bulbs, two in a pack for about $3 bucks. And don't forget to use a soldering iron designed for electronics (low wattage - less heat) as opposed to electrical work (higher wattage - higher heat and the potential to melt the plastic that you're working with... I did that, don't ask).

At some point in the '95 model year they changed to a different switch that uses a socketed bulb which makes bulb replacement a very simple job.
