loss of a/c under acceleration, doesn't come back until v

We have a loss of cold a/c under accelation. It does not come back unless you turn the ignition off and then restart the car.

1996 Volvo 850 wagon non turbo with 197000 miles. We drive a lot of miles in western North Carolina and is a little frustrating in the summertime.

The a/c works fine as long as there isn't much heavy drain on the motor under acceleration.

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you checked the clutch on your ac compressor?

Everything checks okay on the compressor

Have you checked the clutch plate gap with a feeler gauge? It should be between .020-.015. If the gap is larger than .020, then the clutch is worn. I have a quick/simple/cheap fix for this, so if it is worn, let me know.

Going off during turbo boost is normal, but it not coming back on isn't. Like others said, check your clutch gap...if that's not it you might have a faulty switch at your firewall.
