'96 Volvo 850R Manual trans, non-turbo, 182,000 miles
I have a check engine light that I can't reset and get code DTC P0410 "Secondary Air Injection System"
Car starts fine, within the first mile acts like it runs out of fuel then picks back up and runs fime the rest of the day...
Can I fix it and where should I start?

Like it says it's your secondary air pump- which is located under your battery (you can see if from the bottom of your car)....it usually seizes up from condensation working its way out of a faulty SAS valve (that little mushroom shaped brass valve on close to your firewall almost in the center of the car, and under your hood) into the air pump. To fix it you need to replace both your air pump and the SAS valve. Take a look in the repair database...a great write-up on how you can use a cheap VW air pump to replace your Volvo's innards, if you're so inclined. The good thing is that it's a simple emission's devise so you're not going to hurt your car (or keep you from driving unless your state has emission's testing) if you keep driving it while it's bad...it's only to blow exhaust out of the system for the first minute or so of start-up and apparently at prolonged stops at a red lights, etc.
