Hi,
Turning the ignition key or opening the doors sounds the car alarm instead of starting the car (when I turn the ignition key). The car will not start. I live out in the country so I cannot have it towed, so I desperately need to fix this myself. I cannot find the answer in Chilton's repair manual. Any suggestions?
I'll send you some Volvo goodies if your solution works like touch-up paint, keychain, or a cupholder, etc. Or, I can answer your question. I'm pretty good with the mechanical stuff, just clueless about the electrical stuff. Thanks in advance!
Much appreciation,
Latigerlilly.

If you have a remote keyfob unlock the doors with that, that will disable the alarm. If you don't have the remote try using the keys going to the unlock position twice in fairly quick succession. If that doesn't work on the driver's side try the passenger's side. Sometimes the switches in the lock go bad from lack of use.
If that still doesn't work you need to remove relay 210/211 from the lower electrical unit which is located high on the firewall to the left of the steering column (as you look at it).
Once that relay is removed look on the 210 side of the relay and identify pins 50E and 50F. Fashion a jumper wire and jumper the socket positions associated with those to pins.
At this point the alarm system is defeated and the immobilizer is bypassed. The car should start and run normally.
