Noise from the rear of the car

I noticed that I have a noise coming from the right rear of the car when i hit bumps. It sounds like something loose that rattles when a bump is hit. Maybe from the rear wheel area....

Ideas?

Start the the easy stuff. It could be bad shock mounts. The best way to tell is to lift the carpet behind the rear seats and look at them. Bad shock mounts are usually obvious by sight.

The other thing that makes one heck of a racket is when the delta arm end links go bad. I did a writeup on that subject here:

I think others have come up with better methods of removing the old ones.

Check your exhaust . The rear end has a steady , Mines rotted through and I get a nice rattle just like yours over bumps .

Hi, also check rear brake pads. You could move mine with your fingers, rattled on every bump in road and was really annoying with windows down. Backed pads with brake grease and renewed pins and cross springs, now super quiet again.

No,
in fact it is the rod that goes through these hangers. It is no more welded on the end pipe and it's rusted.

Hmm your not really going to fix that without replacing the box unless you know someone a bit handy that can tack a new bit on . A low tech solution is find a wire coat hanger and cut the twist off the top . That will leave you a good length of wire to play with . Twist the wire round the exhaust and use pliers to make a twist securing it and run the rest up to the rubber through and make another twist making sure the pipe is stable . That should hold it .

May fix it but won't get rid of the clunking. The only permanent solution is to get rid of the rusted part and have someone re-weld a piece for the hanger to the rear of the car.
