hard starting 1980 240 when cold
hard starting 1980 240 when cold
Turn the key with no throttle starts fine but after 2-3 secs dies. More throttle kills it also. Smells rich both cold and warm engine. When it does "idle' its running on 2-3 cylinders for about 10 secs. Swap over most things from a donor car but still same old problem. Done injectors, computer, plugs, leads, cold start valve and jet. Thanks for any help

the coolant temperature sensor has a large effect on the mixture. If there is added resistance in the circuit the engine computer will pour on the gas thinking the car is colder than it is. On my car (1988) there are two temp sensors one for the gage and one for the fuel injection. Clean your connections, and also clean your grounds located on top of the intake manifold. It is possible that your temp sensor is bad although this is less likely. It is a reverse coieficient thermister, which means it measures high ohms when cold and lower ohms when hot. You will have to look at a manual to get the specs. Hope this helps
